Q5 II: A Solid Contender

A complete car, though not perfect. I spent a lot of time before making my decision. I tested most of the competition in this class – Volvo XC60, Alfa Romeo Stelvio, Lexus NX, BMW X3, and Mercedes GLC. As well as cars from other segments – Lexus RX, Lexus ES, and Audi A5. I'm writing this review for you, so you don't have to waste as much time yourself, but also for myself – I'm not 100% sure if this was the right choice, although honestly, each of those cars had something that appealed to me.

Pros: Well-rounded package, Strong competition benchmarked
Cons: Not entirely perfect

Q5 II Review

While I didn't initially prefer the exterior, after testing the BMW X3, Lexus NX and RX, Volvo XC60, and Mercedes GLC, the Skoda Kodiaq proved to be the most balanced and user-friendly. The slogan "perfection in detail" holds true - everything is meticulously crafted, providing a sense of safety, comfort, and solidity without unnecessary flash. The surprisingly low fuel consumption impressed me; the average consumption over 100,000 km is a sensational 6.7 liters, even with fast driving.

Pros: Balanced and user-friendly, Perfection in detail, Sense of safety, comfort, and solidity, Sensational low fuel consumption

Q5 II: A Tale of Two Engines

In 2020, I bought the 35 TDI quattro version, a fantastic car. Economical, it could achieve 5.5L/100km with economic driving. I've driven 270,000 km, averaging 7.7L. The car is very dynamic and quiet. Unfortunately, this version is no longer available. I bought the 40TDI quattro. It drinks fuel like a dragon and isn't much more dynamic despite nearly 50 HP more. It's much louder, and now it turns out it consumes oil. Additionally, it has a factory defect: the parking sensors don't work in the rain.

Pros: Economical fuel consumption (35 TDI), Dynamic and quiet ride (35 TDI), Good long-distance cruiser
Cons: Higher fuel consumption on 40 TDI, Less dynamic than expected (40 TDI), Noisier than previous version (40 TDI), Oil consumption issue (40 TDI), Faulty parking sensors in rain (40 TDI)

Audi Q5 II: Comfort, Convenience, and Pure Driving Pleasure

Comfort, convenience, and driving pleasure. I invent routes just to drive it. It has everything I demand from a car, and it's made from very good materials. I control everything with knobs or buttons I can find without taking my eyes off the road. Heated/ventilated seats mean my backside doesn't hurt even after several hundred kilometers. Plenty of power, and it's quiet inside at legal speeds. It gets me and my crew, including the dog, to our destination without a hitch. It uses the right amount of fuel relative to its performance.

Pros: Exceptional comfort and convenience, High-quality interior materials, Intuitive controls within easy reach, Comfortable seating for long journeys, Quiet cabin at legal speeds, Effortless travel with passengers and pets
Cons: Fuel consumption could be slightly more optimized for its class

Q5 II Review

I bought this car because I was always drawn to it. I switched from a Lexus IS300h (hybrid), where fuel consumption was 6.5-7.5 L/100km. Here, I either drive long distances (rarely) or short trips of 3-7km (city), so my consumption is 12 L/100km. However, after about 7km it drops to 10.5 L/100km, and at 10km it reaches 8 L/100km. I didn't install LPG, that's my choice. I imported it from the States with minor damage (the rear bumper came off, I didn't even paint anything). When importing it, I was worried about the 2.0 engine, if it was good enough...

Pros: Always desired the model, Improved fuel economy over previous hybrid on longer runs, Minor import damage
Cons: Higher city fuel consumption, Initial concern about 2.0L engine

Q5 II: A Smart Choice

I didn't want an SUV, but sedan/wagon choices are shrinking. The A5 Avant's rear was tight, and the Superb disappointed after its 3rd generation. The Q5 was the final choice. After a few months, I can say it was a hit. First, the few downsides: - With MHEV, I expected slightly better city fuel economy; the car's weight is noticeable. - A bit more rear legroom would be ideal. - The B&O audio sounds good, though I'm not an audiophile.

Pros: Excellent overall choice, Good audio system (B&O)
Cons: City fuel economy could be better, Rear legroom could be more generous

Audi Q5 II Test Drive

A very pleasant car to drive. It doesn't offer extreme excitement, but it's very enjoyable. Drives very nicely on electric. In Dynamic mode, it can show its teeth. The standard suspension is springy and gives confidence on the road. The gasoline engine and transmission are adequate, but the best driving sensations are on electric. Some of the interior plastics don't match the price. The app is a joke. Only 4,000 km driven, but it's growing on me.

Pros: Pleasant to drive, Good electric driving experience, Sporty in Dynamic mode, Confident suspension
Cons: Interior plastics don't match price, App is a joke

Q5 II

I've had this car since new for over 4 years, driven 110,000 km, 95% on highways as I have a gasoline Golf for local drives. Oil changed after 1000 km, then every 15,000 km. A very nice car, economical, pulls well on Alpine passes, which I visit at least once a year. Supposedly 163 HP, but it manages well when loaded for vacation. Good quality light leather seats, no signs of wear / maintained twice a year. Good sound insulation, but facelift versions from January '21 lack under-hood insulation.

Pros: Economical, Good pulling power, especially on mountain roads, High-quality, durable light leather seats, Excellent sound insulation (pre-facelift)
Cons: Facelift (Jan '21 onwards) lacks under-hood sound insulation
