Brava: A Realistic Look

I bought this car 4 years ago, it's 12 years old now, and for its age, I was prepared for many surprises. I regret buying this car with LPG installed in Poland – mediocre components, expiring cylinder homologation. I advise everyone against buying with LPG, as it's better to have one installed personally in a trusted workshop or authorized dealer. Beyond the overly sweet opinions of Fiat Brava owners, one must be objective and list the vehicle's flaws. Contrary to opinion...

Pros: Potentially affordable purchase price
Cons: Low-quality LPG components, expiring cylinder homologation, Requires honest assessment of flaws

Fiat Brava: Promising Name, Disappointing Reality

My wife's 1998 Fiat Brava 1.6, purchased a month ago, is already falling apart. The gearbox needs replacing, the suspension creaks, the electrics are faulty, and the engine revs fluctuate. We've even had a lubrication system failure affecting the camshaft. It's a mess; one month after buying it, we don't know where to start with repairs. This one doesn't have LPG and drinks 11 liters of petrol. The car was clearly prepped for sale. Best to stay away from the 1.6 engines. Sadly, most of these cars from '97-'99 are already in rough shape.

Pros: Initial appearance might be deceiving.
Cons: Gearbox requires replacement, Suspension squeaks, Electrical issues, Unstable engine RPM, Lubrication system failure, High fuel consumption (11 L/100km petrol), Poor condition for its age

Brava - Never Again!

Never again with this car, if it can even be called that. I made a mistake with the very first choice. Even though many advised me against buying a Fiat, I foolishly went for this piece of junk. I've owned it for 3 months, but for the last month, it's been visiting the workshop an average of once a week. One thing gets fixed, and a few days later, the next goes wrong, and these aren't minor issues. So far, the entire suspension has failed, and the clutch. Now I have a surprise with a significant leak on the gearbox plus loss of...

Pros: None
Cons: Frequent breakdowns, Major mechanical failures, Expensive repairs, Poor reliability

Brava: A Reliable and Surprisingly Flawless Car

This car is incredibly reliable. Perhaps I got lucky with a well-maintained, accident-free example with genuine mileage, but I genuinely can't fault this car. Absolutely nothing broke. No rust (though I suspect it was starting to show under the plastic trim near the rear doors/rear pillar – a common issue with Bravas I've seen). It didn't consume any oil. The air conditioning was superb, even better than Golfs or Focuses. Overall, a car without flaws (though it could have been...

Pros: Exceptional reliability and no breakdowns, No oil consumption, Excellent air conditioning, superior to competitors, No significant rust issues
Cons: Potential for minor rust starting under rear door trim

Brava

Fiat for many is synonymous with unreliability and poor quality. For 6 years of using the Brava, I haven't had any serious breakdowns. All failures were operational issues or ones that could happen to any 10-year-old car. I laugh at people who consider certain brands better and less unreliable. Looking at my friends, only one conclusion arises – car breakdowns (serious ones) depend not on the brand but on how the car is used and cared for. In my Brava over 6 years, apart from replacing parts

Pros: Reliability beyond expectations, Low cost of parts and maintenance
Cons: Basic interior materials, Limited engine options

Brava

Overall, I am very satisfied. I think the car's origin is a big key to success, but this applies to practically every brand. If someone buys a car that has been in an accident, carelessly put together, and generally neglected, there's no point expecting miracles. I acquired the car (when it was eight years old) from a family member (first owner), bought in a Polish dealership, yet quite well-equipped (automatic climate control, two airbags, ABS, electric windows - too bad only the front ones).

Pros: Good satisfaction overall, Acquired from first owner, Well-equipped for its age
Cons: Only front electric windows

Brava: A Sleeper Hit Still Worth Considering

Everything works very well. Fans of this vehicle believe the Brava and Bravo were underrated in Poland and neighboring countries. Notably, there is still a good supply of them in France. The car has its flaws, but summing up after long-term ownership, I can confidently say (if I were any authority - which I'm not) that this car definitively deserves the title of Car of the Year, which it received in 1996, pushing aside cars like the Audi A4 B5, which today...

Pros: Excellent overall performance, Underrated gem, Still readily available in certain markets
Cons: Has its drawbacks

Brava: A Warning to Potential Buyers

I sold this car about 2 years ago, but I can't forget how much it made my life difficult. So, I decided to warn others against buying it. I bought the car from its first owner with around 130,000 km. I drove about 15,000 km annually. Only the first year of ownership (apart from minor issues) was trouble-free. The following year, the car literally started to fall apart. I could describe every breakdown and attempted repair at length. To save readers unnecessary details, I will list:

Pros: Initial year largely trouble-free
Cons: Significant reliability issues from the second year onwards, Frequent and costly breakdowns, Overly disruptive and inconvenient ownership experience

Brava

I bought the car as a bargain for 1500 PLN from a work colleague. I needed a 'workhorse' to get me from point A to point B. Despite many bad opinions, I decided to buy it because for over 5 years I saw this car always arrive at the company parking lot, regardless of summer or frosty winter, and there were no complaints from the previous owner. In 2 years, I covered 10,000 km virtually without problems. It should be emphasized that I regularly replaced all wear-and-tear parts.

Pros: Reliable point-to-point transportation, Consistent performance in various conditions, Affordable purchase price
Cons: Reputational issues

Brava Review

The car is comfortable for driving, I recommend it, but the fuel consumption was around 12l/100km. Rust was a big issue with the bodywork, but the comfort was good. The interior felt unrefined, despite my efforts to maintain the car in the best possible condition, regularly fixing issues and investing over 2000 PLN. My version had AC (worked for 3 days), 4 electric windows (rear ones were terrible), electric mirrors, and a quasi-climate control system (it set the...

Pros: Comfortable ride
Cons: High fuel consumption (12l/100km), Significant rust on bodywork, Unrefined interior, Faulty AC, Poor rear electric windows, Costly repairs
