Hyundai Accent: A Fond Farewell

I no longer drive the Hyundai Accent; I sold it to my cousin and bought a Chevrolet Lacetti myself. I drove the Accent for three years, and I must say, I fondly remember that period. The car was already several years old, so a few things (rust, alternator, some minor issues) did crop up, but overall, I didn't have any major problems with it. It turned out to be more spacious than it appears from the outside, handled very well, and proved itself both in the city and on the road. It was cheap and had AC.

Pros: Spacious interior, Excellent handling, Good for city and highway, Affordable, Air conditioning
Cons: Signs of age (rust), Alternator issues, Minor miscellaneous problems

Hyundai Accent I

I bought this car new in 1996. Basic version. It had nothing but power steering. I drove it for 11 years, covering nearly 170,000 km. The engine was sensational, a 12-valve Mitsubishi design. Unusual but economical, reliable, with quite decent performance. Throughout its use, it had the original exhaust. I only replaced the flexible joint. After 8 years (i.e., Polish winters), the right wishbone rusted out and I had to replace it. After 150,000 km, the left rear wheel bearing failed, and a moment later...

Pros: Economical and reliable Mitsubishi engine, Decent performance, Original exhaust lasted almost entire ownership
Cons: Basic equipment, minimal features, Right wishbone rusted out after 8 years, Left rear wheel bearing failed after 150,000 km

Accent i: A Solid All-Rounder

Overall, the car is very good for my needs. You can drive it calmly and economically, or push it and go as fast as possible. No problems with electronics, engine, or drivetrain. The only drawback is signs of corrosion on the rear fenders, doors, and trunk lid. Everything can be fixed :). I've had the car since January 21, 2013. I've driven 47,000 km so far. Summarizing this short period up to today: Disc and pad replacement 500 PLN, clutch replacement 500 PLN, cable replacement…

Pros: Good for economical driving, Can be driven spiritedly, No major mechanical or electrical issues
Cons: Corrosion on rear fenders, doors, and trunk lid

Hyundai Accent: A Budget Beater That Lasted

We bought this car for next to nothing from friends who were buying a new one. The car was in *satisfactory+* condition, generally functional, but rust was starting on the rear wheel arches, even though it was garaged. It was meant to be a temporary car for a year until we could afford something better... but it served us for three years. During that time, there were no serious, costly breakdowns. After a while, the fuel tank vent pipe rusted and the car began to choke due to gunk in the tank. This was a puzzle that took me a long time to solve.

Pros: Affordable purchase price, Reliable for daily use, No major breakdowns during ownership
Cons: Rust starting on rear wheel arches, Rusted fuel tank vent pipe causing engine issues

Super car for two people. Hyundai has outdone itself with good finishing and sensational mechanics. A very efficient engine is used in this small car, while remaining economical and reliable. The car has a very spacious trunk, which has often accommodated the belongings of five people going camping. The interior is rather spartan, but roomy. Relatively durable suspension, electronics without interference, no serious defects. After 17 years, the car has started to consume a little oil.

Pros: Good finishing, Sensational mechanics, Efficient, economical, and reliable engine, Spacious trunk, Roomy interior, Durable suspension, Reliable electronics
Cons: Spartan interior, Slight oil consumption after 17 years

Accent i: A First Car Choice

If we're talking about a car meant to be a driver's first 'career' vehicle, as was my case, it's a good choice. The engine is indestructible, the suspension handled many situations well, it forgives a lot of mistakes. You'll gain experience driving, as there's no power steering. The bodywork seems to be made of cardboard, so no danger if you lightly scrape a sidewalk or wall. It's fuel-efficient. At 120 km/h, you won't hear your passenger, and the window seals will further complicate that. Despite...

Pros: Indestructible engine, Resilient suspension, Forgiving of errors, Economical fuel consumption, Durable bodywork
Cons: Lack of power steering, Poor interior noise isolation

Owned by the family since 1997, I've been driving it since I got my license, with breaks for other cars. This version has no power steering, A/C, or ABS, let alone airbags or Isofix. A car for the tough or the crazy. My wife doesn't want to get in it, but I've towed her cars with it several times. The new model didn't even have a radio or clock. It's a simple vehicle, straightforward mechanics, easily accessible. Most repairs can be done yourself without fear of damaging anything because

Pros: Extremely simple mechanics, Easy to repair yourself, Reliable for towing, Minimalist features
Cons: Lacks modern amenities (power steering, A/C, ABS, airbags), Not for the faint of heart, Wife refuses to drive it
