i30 II: A Reliable Workhorse

If I had to improve one thing, it would be the noise insulation above 120-130 km/h. Road noise, wind noise, and engine sounds are quite noticeable. I tested many tires and definitely recommend investing in quiet ones for this car. I've driven over 150,000 km, mostly on highways with 30-40% city driving. I haven't experienced any breakdowns. It's a simple diesel without a dual-mass flywheel, with a timing chain.

Pros: Reliable diesel engine, Durable drivetrain (timing chain), Good for long distances
Cons: Road noise above 120-130 km/h, Wind and engine noise can be intrusive

Hyundai i30 II

The Hyundai i30 is the line separating decent motoring from junk. It's not entirely one or the other. It's a perfectly bland car, like a Volkswagen – for people who hate their lives and drink instant coffee. Those who say it's a great car are the same group who believe a manual is better than an automatic and that a dishwasher is unnecessary at home because you can wash by hand. I have a lot of respect for my Hyundai because it runs and, surprisingly, doesn't break down. But driving it brings me so little...

Pros: Reliable, Functional
Cons: Bland, Uninspiring driving experience
