Mercedes E-Class W214: A Complete Disappointment

This Mercedes is a complete failure. The 300 de hybrid works terribly. When pressing the accelerator harder while driving on electricity, the entire drivetrain momentarily disconnects, then the combustion engine engages, and only then does the electric motor join the combustion engine. Of course, you can drive on the combustion engine alone, but why pay for an electric motor with a large battery (the car can go up to 100 km on electricity alone!)? Other impressions below. Fortunately, I drove it as a replacement for about 8 weeks, but I decided...

Pros: Up to 100 km on electric power alone.
Cons: Hybrid system is poorly implemented., Drivetrain disconnects during acceleration., Inefficient use of electric powertrain., Overall a complete failure.

E-Class W214: A Surprisingly Noisy Machine

Surprisingly poor engine insulation – the low RPM range is incredibly loud. Best to drive on electric power. During strong acceleration, it sounds sportily noble and is almost quieter. In the lower ranges, it hums strangely and is much louder than a BMW or Audi diesel. When releasing the throttle (also when stationary), it sounds like something is grinding – service claims it's the turbo wastegate valve and they're unsure as they don't have another one. Otherwise, mega quality (BMW and Audi in comparison don't measure up).

Pros: Sporty, noble sound under hard acceleration, Premium quality materials, Quiet on electric power
Cons: Poor engine insulation at low RPMs, Strange humming noise from engine, Louder than diesel competitors at low RPMs, Grinding noise when releasing throttle suspected turbo wastegate issue

E-Class W214: Smooth Highway Cruiser

Generally very nice for long highway journeys. Inside is quiet, and it assists with driving: active cruise control, "autonomous" driving (up to 20-30 seconds), braking, radar/camera assisting in fog. Fuel consumption is a pleasant surprise – with a calm driving style on Polish roads (50% highway, 50% regular roads), it uses around 7.0-7.1 L/100km. And this is a big, heavy car with 200 HP. Very nice navigation, it's based on Google Maps but the interface is better than Android Auto, showing traffic jams more effectively.

Pros: Excellent for long highway trips, Quiet cabin, Effective driving assistance systems, Surprising fuel economy for its size/power, Superior navigation interface
Cons: "Autonomous" driving limited to short durations
