406 Kombi

Despite its age, this car is a great alternative to the well-known Passat. It offers ample space and reliability, despite minor flaws that don't hinder driving. The trunk is very capacious and, for people up to 175cm tall, it can easily double as a tent for holiday trips. Additionally, this is my first car, and it's genuinely good material for learning (despite 116HP, it has similar acceleration to a Skoda Fabia with a 1.4 88HP engine), as you can't easily get into trouble and lose control.

Pros: Great alternative to Passat, Spacious interior, Reliable, Large trunk, Good for learning to drive
Cons: Minor flaws

2000 Peugeot 406 Sedan

I am the owner of a 2000 406 sedan. The 406 is a solid car, but like any, it has its issues. The ride comfort is definitely commendable – the interior is spacious, the driving position is comfortable, forward visibility is very good (don't expect good rear visibility in a sedan, though it could be worse), the suspension excellently dampens bumps while providing decent handling and is relatively durable for a multi-link setup. The car also has its drawbacks – most notably...

Pros: Excellent ride comfort, Spacious interior, Comfortable driving position, Good forward visibility, Effective suspension, Decent handling, Durable multi-link suspension
Cons: Poor rear visibility (typical for sedan)

406 Coupe

A stylistically exceptional car, it catches the eye. More than once, people from other cars at the car wash would approach to ask about it. It evokes a sense of freedom, bringing back memories of bygone eras of great motoring, at least for me. An 'ever-young' car that provides great driving pleasure. I don't regret buying it, although I had some initial issues. However, I continually fine-tune it, and it's getting better and better. Parts prices are not daunting; you can find a lot.

Pros: Exceptional styling, Evokes a sense of freedom, Great driving pleasure, Reasonable parts prices
Cons: Some initial issues

406 Coupe

The car has a timeless design, no doubt about it, it's unique. It really stands out from the crowd of other cars, which are often bland or unoriginal. I haven't met anyone who said the car is ugly. This is thanks to Pininfarina's studio. Not for nothing is the 406 coupe called the 'French Ferrari' by some. This model is rarely seen on the streets, which is why other drivers and passers-by turn their heads. On several occasions, someone...

Pros: Timeless design, Unique and eye-catching, Stands out from the crowd, Beautifully styled by Pininfarina

406 Coupe

This car was always my dream, I finally convinced my uncle to sell it to me. I got it from the first owner, so I wasn't afraid of the mileage. When I bought it, it had over 350,000 km on the odometer, and everything still works perfectly. The mechanics are fine, but that's thanks to my uncle, who not only repaired the car but also serviced it regularly, replacing parts not when they broke, but when he felt they were nearing the end of their life. Currently, I've only replaced the timing belt and changed the oil irregularly.

Pros: Reliable, well-maintained mechanics, First owner, low mileage for its age
Cons: Irregular oil changes may require future attention, Age may bring other wear and tear issues

406 Sedan Review

I bought this car worn out, for next to nothing, 430,000 km mileage, crashed, 5 owners within a year. Automatic plus LPG, so you could say it was a ticking time bomb. In this case, all it took was replacing filters and fluids, and struggling a bit with minor things like bushings and engine mounts, and the car is alive like new. The automatic version is basically only good for highways and outside the city. It struggles and is slow in the city, but on the highway it's a speed demon. 240 km/h.

Pros: Affordable purchase price, Revived with basic maintenance, Excellent highway performance, High top speed
Cons: High mileage and previous damage, Numerous previous owners, AT gearbox and LPG are a questionable combo, Sluggish in city driving

406 Coupe

A truly wonderful car with character. You don't need to give it gas; at traffic lights or cruising down a narrow street, everyone turns to admire it. Even at gas stations, people approach and ask what marvel it is. Designed by Pininfarina, even near office buildings, one slows down to admire it in reflections. The driving pleasure is also there. I've driven it nearly 20,000 km and so far, the satisfaction is the same as the day I bought it.

Pros: Stunning design, Captivating presence, Pure driving enjoyment
Cons: Attracts a lot of attention

406 Sedan

I've always been a fan of Japanese cars, sometimes Italian, but never French. My adventure with Peugeot was, as often happens, a coincidence. I drove a 1996 Toyota Camry, a comfortable car with a sofa-like seat, a bit raw inside, now I'd even call it primitive and rusting, but one I really liked. Unfortunately, an accident took it out of use. My next choice was also, of course, a Japanese car - a 1999 Honda Accord 1.8..... horror. It turned out to be a trap. A car that burns more than my Toycynka with a 2.2 engine, unbelievably, but it's...

Pros: Comfortable seating
Cons: Raw interior, Rusting (old car), Disappointing fuel economy (Accord), Unpleasant surprise (Accord)

406 Kombi: A 12-Year Verdict

Writing this review in 2023 after 12 years of ownership. I find it to be a very successful car. Excellent fuel economy, comfort, space, and few mechanical issues speak volumes about this vehicle. It's great for long trips, performing best around 115-120 km/h, with consumption hovering around 5.5l/100km. In the city, it reaches about 6.5l/100km. The bodywork is good; I replaced the sills, but other parts only show very minor rust spots. The rest are typical wear-and-tear items.

Pros: Excellent fuel economy, Comfortable ride, Spacious interior, Reliable mechanicals, Good for long distances
Cons: Sills needed replacement, Minor rust spots on some panels

406 Coupe: A Looker That Delivers

Don't buy this car, PLEASE!!!!! Unless you want a head-turning car for little money that doesn't fail, performs well in both city and highway driving, is relatively inexpensive to maintain, and offers comfort comparable to much more expensive vehicles. Here's a look at the fuel consumption: 70 km/h approx. 5.7 liters; 90 km/h approx. 6 liters; 110 km/h approx. 6.5 liters; 130 km/h approx. 7.5 liters. Generally, it's economical in the 80-120 km/h range. In the city alone, it guzzles about 11 liters on average for me.

Pros: Attracts attention, Reliable performance, Good city and highway driving, Affordable maintenance, Comfortable ride
Cons: High city fuel consumption
