Peugeot 407 SW Review: A Year On

Reviewing after a year of ownership. A comfortable family car. The boot could be larger, only manageable with the opening rear window for maximum capacity. The 125HP LPG engine is adequate, though steeper inclines, especially in mountains when fully loaded, require first gear. Positive note on anti-corrosion protection. Despite its age, a small patch of rust appeared, as expected, on the tailgate. The electrics are truly a tragedy. Error messages frequently appeared on the dashboard, but...

Pros: Comfortable family car, Good anti-corrosion protection
Cons: Boot could be larger, Electrics are problematic, First gear needed on steep inclines when loaded

407 Sedan

A truly nice and quite dynamic car. Lots of space inside. Despite being 17 years old, it still makes a great visual impression. A huge minus for reliability – I've replaced literally everything except the engine (I have nothing bad to say about the engine). Timing belt replaced at purchase at 230,000 km, ABS sensors, air flap controls (car wasn't heating), mass airflow sensor to be replaced, temperature sensor, radiator. Brake pads and discs wear out very quickly for me. DPF removed.

Pros: Pleasant aesthetics, Good performance, Spacious interior
Cons: Poor reliability, Frequent part failures, High brake wear

407 SW

I bought the car primarily for its looks and the panoramic roof, which makes a great impression on passengers unfamiliar with this 'old timer'. In my opinion, the interior materials are more than acceptable, but there are a few too few storage compartments inside. A downside is the very difficult-to-gauge front overhang when parking. The suspension and handling are okay, but it lacks a bit of turning radius. It's too small for agile city maneuvering. The car feels best on...

Pros: Appealing aesthetics, Impressive panoramic roof, Good interior materials
Cons: Limited interior storage, Difficult front overhang gauging, Small turning radius for city driving

407 SW

Compared to its competitors, this car stands out with a few interesting solutions, but the overall experience is marred by several drawbacks that are difficult for me to accept, sometimes making it feel unsafe. More on that later. In short, the car is comfortable and nicely equipped, but completely lacking in charm and character. Peugeot is a brand with many successes in motorsport history. However, the 407 is a car that contradicts that. Obviously, it's not a sports car, and that's not the expectation.

Pros: Comfortable, Well-equipped
Cons: Lacks charm and character, Some potentially dangerous flaws, Doesn't live up to Peugeot's sporty image

407 Sedan Review

This car was my first and I drove it for 6 years, so I don't have much to compare it to. What you can't deny this car is its comfort – driving it is pure pleasure (when everything works). I also don't understand other comments saying it's a car without character. In my opinion, the Peugeot 407 is one of the more distinctive cars due to its shark-like front – I wouldn't mistake it for any other car. The interior finish quality is also, in my opinion...

Pros: Exceptional ride comfort, Distinctive, memorable design
Cons: Reliability concerns when things don't work

Peugeot 407 SW Review

I used the Peugeot 407 SW for 2.5 years. An ideal car for long trips. Very comfortable and pleasant to drive. Low fuel consumption. Spacious trunk. Dynamic engine with no issues. Enjoyable driving experience. Durable suspension. The only downside is the electrical system. I drove nearly 50,000 km and only replaced oil and brakes. I'd still be driving it but needed something newer. It was starting to need a clutch replacement, a new battery, and FAP filter cleaning.

Pros: Ideal for long trips, Very comfortable, Low fuel consumption, Spacious trunk, Dynamic and reliable engine, Enjoyable driving experience, Durable suspension
Cons: Electrical system issues

407 SW Review

I'll write generally here. Car 4/5. Serious faults that can cause unnecessary costs include the brake sensor under the pedal for 28 PLN - it causes ABS, ESP, and airbag failures, and the computer struggles to diagnose the problem. Before you start replacing ABS, start with this shitty sensor. Apart from that, many minor things break, which generally don't affect driving (e.g., wiper washers, sunroof cover, rear window regulators, fog lights, grounds).

Pros: Good general performance, Reasonable spare parts cost for critical sensor
Cons: Brake sensor under pedal can cause major electronic failures (ABS, ESP, airbags), Difficult to diagnose sensor issue, Numerous minor electrical/functional issues

407 Coupe Review

When I bought this car, I didn't have a strong opinion, having previously owned a regular 407 SW with a 1.6 diesel. After driving 2,000 km, I was already sure it was an exceptional car. It drives like much newer German designs while being very comfortable. Excellent soundproofing and confident handling make you not want to get out. The engine, which is so widely criticized, causes no problems in my example - perhaps due to frequent oil changes (every 10,000 km).

Pros: Exceptional car, Drives like newer German cars, Very comfortable, Excellent soundproofing, Confident handling
Cons: Engine widely criticized (though not in this case)

407 Coupe

For 15k, it's a great choice right now. The car is incredibly comfortable despite its "sporty" look, and dynamic enough to handle 90% of cars encountered. Best for highway or fast road driving. Then this car simply delivers 100% of what it has to offer. You can find fault with the long front overhang, which, combined with very low suspension, forces parallel parking or reversing into most perpendicular spots. The long front end doesn't help.

Pros: Excellent value for money, Remarkably comfortable, Sufficiently dynamic for most driving situations, Superb on highways and fast roads
Cons: Long front overhang, Low suspension requires careful parking, Parking maneuvers can be challenging

407 Sedan

This 2.0 HDI sedan, coded RHR with 136 hp and 350 Nm of torque, frankly lacks a dynamic spirit in stock form. You can easily tune it to 180 hp/400 Nm to boost its performance, as it feels underpowered for daily driving and overtaking. However, I don't recommend exceeding this power level, as French gearboxes have their limits, roughly around the stock torque figures. The limit for the gearbox is around 420 Nm. Exceeding this significantly shortens the gearbox's lifespan. If you want to play with power, ensure you have adequate braking capabilities.

Pros: Potential for significant power increase with tuning
Cons: Lacks dynamic spirit in stock form, Underpowered for daily driving and overtaking, Gearbox has limited torque capacity, Requires upgraded braking for higher power
