Clio II

Solid healthy body, a lively engine that pulls strongly yet is dynamic; you can accelerate confidently in 5th gear from 50 km/h, and it pulls evenly up to 120 km/h with a fuel consumption of 5 liters. Plus, full electrics including mirrors and AC. If it weren't for the tire noise, I'd think I was driving a car from a different segment, but it's so agile in the city or parking lot, I can turn around wherever I want. I think it might stay with me forever. The tires need changing as the rubber is hard and noisy. Space inside...

Pros: Strong, healthy bodywork, Dynamic engine, powerful acceleration even from low speeds, Excellent fuel economy (5 L/100km), Full electric features (mirrors, AC), Agile and maneuverable in the city
Cons: Tire noise due to old, hard rubber

Very Good - Clio II

Very low fuel consumption (average 6.2l/100km). Comfortable for a car of its age. However, engine power is VERY weak outside the city. Soundproofing is poor, and headlight lenses are dimming with time. The windshield washer pump was replaced at 131,000 km.

Pros: Very low fuel consumption (average 6.2l/100km), Comfortable for its age
Cons: Engine power very weak outside town, Poor soundproofing, Headlight lenses dimming with time, Windshield washer pump replaced at 131,000 km

Renault Clio II 1.2 (60 Hp) Hatchback 94,000 km

Problem: Air Conditioning

Issue: Air conditioning. The LPG gauge seems to go crazy depending on the season?? It's sluggish, and the overall construction feels light. A 1cm gravel pebble pierced (tiny hole!) this darn A/C radiator. It's poorly exposed to the road without protection and visibly fragile (under the front left bumper). Shown to a radiator repairer. This model cannot be repaired as it's designed to be recycled at best (thrown away). The Renault bill was 1390? for a hole less than 1mm (but recharge included).

Pros: Economical, Handling, Highway capable
Cons: LPG gauge erratic by season??, Sluggish performance, Light overall construction, Fragile A/C radiator poorly exposed and easily damaged. Not repairable, designed for disposal. Expensive replacement.

Very Good - Clio II

Reliable and willing. Chassis balance could be better. Had issues with wheel alignment, crankshaft position sensor, and thermostat.

Pros: Reliable and willing
Cons: Chassis balance, Wheel alignment, crankshaft position sensor, thermostat

Renault Clio II 1.2 (60 Hp) Hatchback 133,000 km

Problem: Electronics

Reliability for now, comfort, quite pleasant to drive, performance not too bad given the engine power. High fuel consumption (between 500 and 600 km on a full tank), a few very minor issues. The low fuel warning light no longer illuminates (we don't really care), the driver's side window motor no longer raises the passenger window. The front right ball joint needs replacing, but that's my fault.

Pros: Reliability so far, Comfort, Pleasant to drive, Decent performance for engine power
Cons: High fuel consumption (500-600 km per tank), Minor electrical issues, Low fuel light malfunctioning, Driver window motor fault, Needs front right ball joint (my fault)
