Golf V

My first new Western car – bought new in 2008 – Style version, 1.6 mpi petrol, 102 hp. The engine is loud, outdated, and not very economical, reminiscent of the Golf III, but reliable and maintenance-free – practically indestructible. The car is beautiful in appearance (like a teardrop), with LED rear lights, easily stylable for optical tuning, spacious inside, comfortable, quite well-equipped, poorly insulated. It looked modern and faster than it actually was (9.5s to 100 km/h).

Pros: Reliable, low-maintenance engine, Attractive, timeless design, Spacious and comfortable interior, Good condition for its age
Cons: Noisy and outdated engine, Poor sound insulation, Not very economical

Golf V: Reluctant Purchase, Questionable Value

I bought this car out of necessity to get to work (luckily, it's close by, as the economy of this 'racer' would significantly hurt my monthly budget) and I don't understand people spending 10-20k for this engineering marvel in 2026. It rusts before your eyes worse than an Opel, the engine sounds like it's about to fall apart (I had to check YouTube and with a mechanic if this was normal - apparently, it is) and it guzzles fuel while offering the driving experience of a horse-drawn carriage.

Pros: Serves the purpose of commuting to work.
Cons: Poor fuel economy., Rapid rusting., Engine sounds rough and concerning., Overpriced for its quality in 2026.
