Golf VII: Practical & Efficient

I bought the car used with 90,000 km. Overall, I am very satisfied with the driving comfort, fuel economy, dynamics, and space in the cabin and trunk. In three years of ownership, I encountered one issue: a recalibration of the radar (fixed at an authorized dealer). Other than that, I haven't had any major problems. I am most satisfied with the fuel consumption: in the city, with moderately dynamic driving, it's 8.5-9 L in summer and 9-9.5 L in winter. On the highway, at 90 km/h, it's about 5.0 L, and at 120 km/h, it's 5.8 L. I rate the bodywork negatively.

Very dynamic and comfortable car. Average energy consumption is 12.5-14.5 kWh/100 km. It's cheap to run and ideal for city and suburban use. It easily keeps up with speed limits on bypasses. Energy recuperation works well. On a single charge, you can travel up to 250 km without heating or AC, but realistically, 200 km is a sensible range, leaving a small energy reserve. In winter and summer, range drops by about 10%-20%, depending on the conditions.

Golf VII

This car doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it was designed for. For 3/4 of drivers who commute daily in the city or suburbs, and go on longer trips once a month, this car is the ideal solution. Problem: Fragile Paint

Paint quality is a concern, showing fragility. Otherwise, good interior finish, spaciousness, equipment, and quiet ride. The turbo provides adequate power and consumption for road driving. Good value, especially in base trims. A pleasant alternative to noisy, smelly diesels, with minimal extra cost per 100km compared to a 1.6 TDI 105hp. However, seat fabric quality and the lack of color options for interior plastics are disappointing. The matte paint option is expensive.

AC Issue

There are Golfs and then there are Golfs. For this entry-level model, VW did the bare minimum. It shows and it's felt. Frankly, it's useless, lazy, has nothing under the hood, strictly minimum equipment, not to say poorly equipped. Road holding is no better than my girlfriend's Clio 4 (which has a better engine, by the way, the TCE90). VW service center is as bad as Renault's and more expensive.

Pros: Purchase price, entry-level, 18,000 euros, it's a Golf.

Cons: There are Golfs and Golfs. For this entry-level, VW did the minimum. It shows and is felt. It's useless and lazy, minimal equipment., Speaker crackling, CV joint, air conditioning, brake, wheel bearing, engine leak, clutch pedal, left wheel rim buckled on delivery.

Problem: Battery

The silence of operation is amazing, on national roads it's like a rolling living room compared to my old Golf 5 TDI. Impeccable finish, a plus compared to older models. The aesthetics, for me particularly in silver, I love (but that's just me). Fuel consumption, driving normally, I get under 5l on national roads, a record at 4.8, and even with 17" wheels, I rarely exceed 6.5 in the city, even in Parisian traffic jams, but I rarely go there. The trunk capacity is good.

Cons: The stop-start system is problematic, harming starter, alternator, and battery., Battery was too weak (320Ah) from previous owner; replaced with 580Ah and it's perfect. No other issues so far.
