Golf VIII

The purchase was decided by the price, or rather the price-to-product ratio. For 105,000 PLN, it's hard to find a hatchback with such equipment and a 4-cylinder engine. After over 4,000 km, no serious issues with the car. It has some drawbacks, e.g., the manual gearbox is too short in 1st and 2nd gear, while 6th gear is very, very long – likely for highway cruising. The car has comfortable seats and, during normal driving, aside from winter tire noise at the rear, it's very quiet. Lacking convenient mounts.

Pros: Excellent price-to-equipment ratio, Comfortable seats, Quiet cabin during normal driving
Cons: Manual gearbox has short 1st/2nd gears, Long 6th gear, good for highways, Lacks convenient mounting points

Golf VIII: A Mixed Bag

If not for its 'heaviness' in the first two gears, I would have given it a 5. I previously owned an Octavia with a 1.0 115hp engine and assumed a four-cylinder would at least perform like that. I couldn't test drive this engine before buying, so I trusted my gut and was disappointed. It feels like it's lacking power in city driving, and it's very buzzy when revving in 1st/2nd gear. HOWEVER – I took it on a summer trip to Italy and back, and I was delighted. The fuel consumption at speed

Pros: Excellent fuel economy on long-distance journeys
Cons: Feels underpowered in city driving, Noisy acceleration in lower gears

Golf VIII: A Satisfying Upgrade After 6 Months

I upgraded from a Golf 7.5 and after 6 months, I'm happy! The first 300km highway trip felt like we were becoming friends. Initially, it felt a bit unfamiliar, requiring some adjustment and learning, but I quickly came to love several improvements over the previous generation. The multimedia system is nice, with a responsive touchscreen (thankfully, it also has shortcut buttons for climate and assistants). The system is updated, never froze, and the assistants work – they've already saved me once.

Pros: Improved multimedia system, Responsive touchscreen with shortcut buttons, Reliable software, no freezes, Effective driver assistance systems
Cons: Initial adjustment period required

Golf VIII

An exceptional car, and it's quite rare to find another Golf VIII in this specification in Poland. I drive approximately 40,000 km annually (purchased at the beginning of 2022 during a 2021 model year clearance). It's an ideal car for long routes and local roads, especially in rural areas. The raised suspension provides comfort on poorly maintained roads and with high curbs. The all-wheel drive also performs excellently in difficult conditions. It's not the most economical car, but it's perfect for...

Pros: Exceptional specification, rare in Poland, Comfortable on poor roads and curbs, Excellent all-wheel drive performance, Ideal for long journeys and rural areas
Cons: Not the most economical
