Sharan II: Family's Delight

The ideal car for a 2+3 family, and I think even for 2+2 it would be the most comfortable solution. The sliding doors, especially electric ones, are not just a gadget. For small children, this feature is truly convenient. The engine is dynamic and very economical. So far, it's an outstanding family car – impressive in every way.

Sharan II

It's expensive and I don't understand why it's so expensive. The car is fully loaded with almost all options. The navigation (RNS510) is sluggish and slightly annoying, but thankfully the maps are not bad and are up-to-date. ParkAssist, the self-steering from the advertisement, is a bit of a dud (it struggles to find parking spots). It's easier to list what my car intentionally doesn't have: no electric doors, no electric tailgate, and no sunroof (I still regret this, but my wife wasn't convinced). Plus for the electrically retractable tow hitch.

VW Sharan II 2.0 TDI CR "Bluemotion" 2010

My 2010 VW Sharan 2.0 TDI CR "Bluemotion" with 120,000 km had a cracked catalytic converter. No warning lights appeared, so I was unaware until the ceramic core blocked the exhaust, almost destroying the engine. The only symptom was the constantly running fans. The dealership quoted 8000 euros, but I found a replacement online for 1500 euros plus 500 euros for installation. At 125,000 km, the air conditioning failed, costing 500 euros to replace a valve.

Sharan II: A Spacious Family Car

The Sharan has completely met our expectations. It's a family car that seats 7 people. If shorter passengers sit in the 3rd row, no one complains about lack of space. Three car seats fit easily in the 2nd row. With the rear seats folded, there's more luggage space than in our previous Grand Scenic (we owned 2010 and 2015 models). These are initial impressions after a month; it's hard to judge reliability yet. I have the Trendline version with a few options.
