Touran III: Disappointing First Impressions

Bought this Touran in Switzerland four weeks ago, a June 2019 model with 20,000 km. Already needed a full brake disc and pad replacement. Fuel filler flap damaged. A constant knocking sound from the gearbox or clutch that the service center can't diagnose. The handles in the rear seat headliner are damaged. The car has been in the service center twice in our four weeks of ownership. The engine's power output seems inconsistent, varying with each start – sometimes weak, sometimes strong. The DSG gearbox, as expected, doesn't shift smoothly, with a distinct clunk during gear changes.

Pros: Spacious interior
Cons: Premature brake wear, Damaged fuel filler flap, Unidentified knocking sound, Damaged interior handles, Inconsistent engine power, Rough DSG gear changes

Touran III

An ideal car for a 2+2 family, with sufficient space. With the 1.6TDI engine, it's not a sporty car, but it's very pleasant for travel and rewards with low fuel consumption around 5L. Very well soundproofed; conversation is easy even at 150 km/h. Recommended with Android Auto or CarPlay. A reversing camera is a must; I can't imagine parking this car without it. Plenty of storage compartments. The driving position is very good and comfortable.

Pros: Spacious for a family of 2+2, Excellent fuel economy (around 5L), Very quiet cabin at high speeds, Good driving position and comfort, Ample storage solutions
Cons: 1.6TDI is not sport-oriented, Reversing camera is essential

Touran III

An optimal choice for families with children traveling outside the city. You can pack literally everything for holidays. Comfortable seats, importantly, including the rear ones. You can comfortably travel between two child seats, which is important for long trips with little ones. Comfort, ergonomics, performance - these are the car's greatest strengths. Simultaneously, driving around the city and parking this car is not difficult. I considered trendy SUVs but a practical approach won after testing. Maybe it's not...

Pros: Spacious and practical for families, Comfortable seats, even in the rear, Easy to maneuver in the city, Great for long journeys with children
Cons: May lack the 'trendy' appeal of SUVs

Touran II

I used this car from new for 7 years. Apart from one timing chain issue, which was repaired for a few hundred euros, absolutely nothing happened, although prejudices and worries about the durability of the 1.4 TSI engine were always in the back of my mind. I replaced it with a new model from 2020, but honestly, I drove the old one better and it was more refined. Despite its smaller size, it had a larger trunk, more storage compartments, and more space in the 3rd row of seats. The advantages of the new model are slightly

Pros: Reliable engine (aside from one issue), Spacious interior, Practical storage solutions, Good third-row seating
Cons: Minor timing chain issue, Older model felt more refined
