The 2002 Renault Megane Coupe 1.9 dCi (first generation, X64) offers good fuel economy and a comfortable ride, but the F9Q diesel engine requires careful maintenance. Turbocharger failure is the most notorious issue — the oil pressure relief valve can stick, causing excessive pressure that blows the turbo seals without warning. Fuel system problems are also widespread: injector failure and EGR valve clogging cause rough idle, power loss, and increased consumption. Electrical gremlins are common too, particularly window regulators that fail due to water ingress and intermittent indicator stalk faults. Provenance and service history are critical when buying used.
